A local artist has turned old parking meters into pieces of art.

Conrad Stojak takes unsued parking meters and turns them into painted sculptures.

The artist installs miniature "New York City scenes" inside of the meters.

He's also made some meters solar powered so they glow in the dark.

Stojak says the concept is similar to putting a ship inside of a bottle.

"I look at this as a beautification project for all five boroughs. These meters can be put back anywhere in any neighborhood and I want it to be the most democratic art work there is. It's not Manhattan-centric or Queens-centric, just something that anyone can enjoy anywhere," Conrad Stojak said.

Stojak says he plans on using Wi-Fi enabled bulbs inside of the meters so people can control the colors of the lights using an app on their phones.
