The special task force looking at solutions for Times Square has released its recommendations for the area's pedestrian plazas.

Mayor Bill de Blasio formed the group to look at ways to deal with the topless painted women and costumed characters who take photos for tips.

One of the recommendations accepted by the city is to give the Transportation Department the ability to regulate the plazas.

Currently, the department only oversees the streets.

The task force is also recommending the creation of specific zones, including one just for commercial activity.

But it could be a while before any changes are take place.

"Legislatively, it's going to take a little bit longer. We have to make sure that these regulations are constitutionally robust, they're content neutral, and that they're not going to be struck down by the courts for singling anyone out," said City Councilman Corey Johnson.

The President of the Times Square Alliance released a statement saying, "We are pleased that the administration has endorsed and supported the key elements of the community's plan, and we look forward to working with them and our elected officials to hammer out the specifics of implementation."
