A city public school teacher is under arrest after police say he flew a drone into the stands during a U.S. Open match Thursday night.

Investigators say 26-year-old Daniel Verley flew the drone just before 8:30 p.m. during the second round match between Flavia Pennetta and Monica Niculescu.

The device flew diagonally through Louis Armstrong Stadium and crashed into an empty section of seats.

The match was only briefly interrupted while officials went to investigate.

Verley is facing charges of reckless endangerment, reckless operation of a drone, and operating a drone in a city public park outside of the prescribed area.
