The health care program that treats September 11th first responders is set to expire at midnight unless Congress renews it.
The James Zadroga Health and Compensation Act provides medical services to those who became sick after working at the World Trade Center following the terror attacks.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is among those calling on the program to be permanently reauthorized.
"If Congress doesn't act now, how many more first responders and their families are going to suffer medically and financially because we didn't do our job and reauthorize this program," Gillibrand said.
House and Senate leaders have not said when a bill reauthorizing the Zadroga Act will come up for a vote.
If the program does expire, it has enough money to keep running for another year.
