A fire that completely destroyed a home in Brooklyn has been deemed suspicious by investigators.

The fire department got a call about a house fire in Ditmas Park just before 5 a.m. Thursday.

Around 170 firefighters responded to the scene on Glenwood Road, between Argyle Road and Rugby Road.

They put the flames out about two hours later.

"I looked out my window because I heard crackling noises around 5 o' clock and I saw huge flames i couldn't believe it and I was like, 'Oh my god, I hope the people inside are okay,'" one neighbor said.

Investigators say the fire is suspicious because it started on the front porch, and there have been reports of similar fires in the neighborhood recently.

"We've been told there's been a similar fire somewhere in the neighborhood. This large body of fire with no apparent cause we would have to look into it, but at this time it's just suspicious," said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

The house next door was also severely damaged.

Eight people lived inside the house. Authorities say the four adults and and four children got out on their own, but five of them suffered minor injuries, as did a firefighter.

The concern though continues, knowing investigtors don't  know who or what is behind this.

"It looks like it melted. It looks like this house melted and it's terrifying," one area resident said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
