Some big names from the entertainment world joined city officials Tuesday to launch a new arts initiative.

Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina says the Turnaround Arts program will be used to help struggling schools.

Four programs are being created in Brooklyn, to go along with ones in 26 other school districts nationwide.

As part of the plan, students will be paired with celebrity mentors.

“I’m a product of the public school system and I was very affected by my own very early exposures to theater and music," said actor Ed Norton.

“It’s another thing to have an Ed Norton in your school, a Paula Abdul, Misty Copeland and says, 'I was once like you and this is where I got today.' And that’s what our kids need to hear. Our kids need to know that everything is possible, that people care about. And the arts can transform your lives,” Farina said.

In addition to the program, the city announced $23 million in arts education funding back in July.
