Queens is buzzing with bees and the honey they make helps beautify the borough.

Maureen Regan is the founder of the non-profit Green Earth Urban Gardens.

She uses her own bees to pollenate the garden at her home in Whitestone.

The hive there is home to between 60,000 and 70,000 bees, yielding 40 pounds of honey so far this year.

She says the bees serve a practical environmental purpose while raising money to benefit other green efforts.

"We heard the call about protecting the environment and saving the bees, so we started doing our own part by raising bees, and using the honey to fund local projects," Regan said.

Proceeds from the sale of Whitestone Honey go towards park cleanup events sponsored by the organization.
