An award winning musical is coming to Staten Island.

The Harbor Lights Theater Company is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Rent by bringing the production to Snug Harbor.

The cast rehearsed at the venue on Sunday.

"I've seen many incarnations of the production and the movie and so it was my goal to really get that out of my head and go at this in a totally new light," said actor Travis Artz.

Rent tells the story of a group of New Yorkers struggling with their careers, love lives, and dealing with the AIDS epidemic.

Director Alex Perez says he put a new spin on the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical.

"What we wanted to do was find a way to bring out the cast's originality, and taking everybody's different personalities and injecting their personalities into the show," said Perez.

The show will run from September 18 through October 4.
