Police and community members rallied Tuesday in an effort to improve relations for the annual "National Night Out."

Mayor Bill de Blasio attended a rally in Brownsville.

He touted community policing measures as a force behind the 73rd Precinct's dropping crime rate.

Some people NY1 spoke with were happy to connect with the officers that serve their neighborhood.

"This is what I like," said one person at the rally. "It's not just because they're watching us. They are with us, you know what I'm saying? It feels family-oriented, you know? So it's a good thing."

"The last couple of years, the shootings, the violence, it has slowed down a lot. It's slowed down a lot," said another. "And I appreciate the mayor, 73rd Precinct, everybody that came out today. It's been a nice and a joyful day."

National Night Out is observed throughout the five boroughs and across the country.
