Police are looking for a woman who escaped police custody last night in Lower Manhattan.

Investigators say Tiffany Neumann, 23, slipped out of New York Presbyterian Hospital on William Street shortly after 9 p.m.

She was arrested earlier in the day for petit larceny, theft of service and criminal possession of stolen property.

Sources tell NY1 police took Neumann to the hospital because she complained of bruising and said she was pregnant.

They say it turns out she is not expecting a child.

"There's no excuse for it. It's embarrassing. She's not a mastermind criminal. It's just purely due to inatteniveness and carelessness. So the police officer was suspended last night," said NYPD Chief of Department James O'Neill.

Police are also trying to figure out if Neumann was still handcuffed when she escaped.

She's described as being 5'3" tall, weighing about 120 pounds and was last seen wearing a hospital gown.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call Crimestoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, by texting TIP577 to CRIMES, or by going to NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
