Five overnight shootings around the city left two dead and thirteen people wounded Sunday.

Police say a shooting around 1:30 a.m. at a playground in the Bronx left 20-year-old man Christian Garcia dead. Another 25-year-old man had been shot in the leg and a 17-year-old girl had been shot in the buttocks. They are both currently in stable condition.

Around 2:20 a.m., a 46-year-old man was shot dead opposite the Whitman Houses in the Fort Greene section. His identity has not been released. Police say no arrests have been made in that shooting.

Residents in the area say while the neighborhood has quieted down, they are still not surprised to hear about the shooting.

"Not really, only because I've lived here and things like that happen from time to time. So it's gotten a lot better," one area resident said.

"Not even a little bit. I mean, the gunshots are like lullabies over here. They help you get to sleep. Unfortunetly for that guy, it's permanent," said another.

The next shooting, police say, happened at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday at a home on Stanley Avenue near Crescent Street in East New York. Police say it stemmed from a dispute at a party. Nine people were taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds and four others for cuts and scrapes from debris.

Around 3:45 a.m. police responded to another man shot in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The man was shot in the stomach in what they say was a drive-by. He was taken to Kings County Hospital.

In a separate incident just before 5 a.m., police say a man was shot on Clarkson Avenue in East Flatbush and taken to Kings County Hospital.

Public officials are expressing their dismay at the events.

In a statement, public advocate Letitia James said, "Last night, four separate shooting incidents shook our city. These senseless acts of violences took two lives and left fourteen people injured. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. As a City and as a country, we must do more to take guns off our streets and end the madness that continues to bring us death and destruction."
