The season's first human case of West Nile Virus in the city has been diagnosed.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygene confirms a Brooklyn man over age 60 contracted the virus. He has been treated and discharged from the hospital.

The health department says elderly New Yorkers should take extra care and try to avoid mosquito, whose bites spread the disease.

The city is spraying mosquito insecticide in several Queens neighborhoods as a precaution to stop the spread of the virus.
