A Brooklyn institution is closing its doors after 35 years.

Carmine's Original Pizza in Greenpoint will soon be no more.

Its owner wrote in a note on Facebook that he's closing up shop to enjoy his retirement.

Carmine Notaro was born in Italy but came to the U.S. in 1967. He opened up his famous pizzeria in 1981 and has been in business ever since.

The father of four and grandfather of six is planning to spend his retirment with family in Queens.

Customers say the pizzeria will be missed.

"Everything was perfect, you know, the crust, the sauce, the cheese, the amount of each. Like, every proportion was absolutely perfect. It was cooked to the right extent," said one customer.

"It was bound to happen," said another. "He has a sign there, 35 years. Definitely, it's part of the New York City landscape when it comes to this type of stuff. The end of an icon and an era."

Carmine's is expected to shut down for good sometime this week.
