The U.S. women's soccer team may soon be getting another big honor in addition to its World Cup trophy as the city considers a ticker-tape parade for the world champs.

Team USA won its third World Cup on Sunday by beating Japan 5-2.

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer first floated the idea of a parade on Monday.

In a letter to the mayor's office, she wrote, "I can think of no better way to honor these amazing athletes than by hosting a ticker-tape parade in the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan."

The mayor's Press Secretary later issued a statement saying, "The Mayor’s Office congratulates the US Women’s World Cup Championship team on its tremendous achievement, and is currently exploring logistics and talking with the team and other partners about a possible ticker-tape parade."

New Yorkers who spoke with NY1 say they think a parade would be a good idea.

"These ladies deserve this as much as the Yankees or Mets and all the other so-called sports heroes we have," said one New Yorker.

"When I was younger watching sports women's soccer was never that big of a thing and now it is so that's great to see," said another New Yorker.

The city's last ticker-tape parade was in 2012, when the Giants were honored for winning Super Bowl XLVI.
