It was a white night in Manhattan on Tuesday as about 5,000 people gathered for the annual "Diner en Blanc" party.

This year's event took place at Pier 26 on the Hudson River.

Participants dress in white and are told to gather at 24 spots throughout the city to wait for the party's location.

They also bring their own food, tables, chairs, and silverware.

"The overall ambiance of it, just excitement, everybody's excited, people having a great time and mingling and meeting each other, meeting new people. It's really nice," said one participant.

"This is like the closest grownups get to playing dress up right now. So we dress up, we picnic and we have a really good time," said another participant.

The "Diner en Blanc" event began in Paris in 1988 and has expanded to 60 cities on five continents.

This is the fifth year it has been held in New York.
