An air quality health advisory is in effect for the city today as temperatures climb into the 90s.

A heat advisory is also in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The air quality alert, issued by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, warns about an increase in ozone and pollution.

As a result, adults and children with respiratory issues such as asthma, should consider limiting strenuous outdoor activities.

New Yorkers are encouraged to use mass transit, turn off extra lights and electrical appliances, and wait to run major appliances like dishwashers and dryers until later tonight.

The air quality advisory is in place until 11 p.m.
