The driver of an SUV is in police custody after a bicyclist was killed and several other people injured Monday morning in Brooklyn.

Witnesses say it started just before 7:30 a.m. at Fourth Avenue and Dean Street in Boerum Hill when the SUV driver rear-ended an Uber driver.

The SUV then backed up and went north on Fourth Avenue, going the wrong way, and hit the male bicyclist at Pacific Street.

The bicyclist was then dragged as the SUV struck another vehicle on Atlantic Avenue.

Witnesses say the SUV then struck a pole at Fourth Avenue and Flatbush Avenue, where the bicyclist became unhinged from the vehicle.

They say the SUV driver got out and said he didn't know what happened.

"I had three passengers in the back. I'm working for Uber. I stop at the red light. Next thing I know, I get hit real bad from the back. He was going about 50 miles per hour," the driver of the Uber car said. "He goes on top of the sidewalk, he goes on the opposite side of the road and he just kept on going, and the gentleman right there saw everything that happened down the block."

"Reverse back a little bit, tore off, went into this lane, and sped all the way down, hit another vehicle and hit a pedestrian on a bicycle, killing the pedestrian, and kept on going down," said a witness. "It's surreal. Like, I can't, I mean, you see it a thousand times on TV, but you don't really notice until you really see it up and close."

Rescuers had to use the jaws of life to free the female driver of the second vehicle struck.

Four other people were injured in the incident. Police say the extent of their injuries range from minor to serious.
