With the holy month of Ramadan approaching, the NYPD met Monday with members of the Muslim Community.

Dozens of muslim leaders attended a discussion at police headquarters.

Besides security for the holiday, they touched on how muslims have been vilified in the past and how the Islamic State has been targeting youth on the internet.

NYPD brass says it's still trying to figure out how to deal with that.

"It's a weakness we have right now, we really don't know how to counter that message at this particular time, we're struggling with that and we need to work together to find a way," said Police Commissioner William Bratton.

"I think these types of meeteings are importnat because it shows that we are going to build trust and collaborate together. The Muslim community cannot root out extremism without the help of law enforcement and law enforcement cannot really eliminate all the terroists in the world without the help of the Muslim community," said Daisy Khan of the Women's Islamic Initiative.

Ramadan begins on the evening of June 17.
