The father of Etan Patz is endorsing Staten Island District Attorney candidate Joan Illuzzi, the chief prosecutor in the case of the death of his son.

Illuzzi, a longtime Manhattan prosecutor, recently resigned from her post in the Manhattan DA's office to run for the open seat on Staten Island.

She has faced criticism for her handling of the Patz case, a highly-publicized murder from 1978.

A trial ended last month with a hung jury.

Stan Patz says in a statement, "We are very grateful to Joan Illuzzi for her dedication to finding justice for our little boy."

NY1 will have an exclusive sit down interview with Joan Illuzzi to talk about the Patz case and her candidacy on Inside City Hall at 7 and 10 p.m. and during New York Tonight at 8 p.m.
