Police arrested a man for allegedly cutting down trees and threatening people in Manhattan.

Investigators say witnesses saw 28-year-old Kester Jack sawing down several trees at Riverside Drive between West 95th Street and West 96th Street Thursday afternoon.

They say he also threatened a person who asked what he was doing. One resident tells NY1 that cutting down city trees takes away from the neighborhood.

“There are so few trees in the city and for somebody to just arbitrarily cut them down  seems very unkind and reckless and not in the spirit of trying to keep the neighborhood nice,” the resident said.

Jack is charged with criminal mischief, menacing and marijuana possession.

He has been released, but is due back in court in September.
