Police are investigating after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a Brooklyn home.

The Molotov cocktail was thrown into a two-family home on 83rd Street in Bensonhurst at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday, while people were sleeping.

A woman who lives inside of the house said she heard something hit the side of the house. She said she came outside and saw a broken Bacardi rum bottle and flames starting to spread.

The woman said she was able to call 911 for help, and both families got out of the home as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

"As I walked out, it was, I could barely breathe, and we ran through right here, and there were at least 10 firemen right there, and there was a hose on the ground. I guess we were just on the side over there," said neighbor James Leahy. "I was really scared because I thought maybe we might be next."

No one who lives inside the home was hurt, but the NYPD says two officers were treated for smoke inhalation.

NY1 is told that six children live in the home's upstairs apartment, while four children live in the home's first-floor apartment.
