Service on the A line between Broad Channel and Rockaway Boulevard has resumed after it was disrupted by thieves who stole 500 feet of copper cable.

The theft forced the MTA to suspend train service and provide shuttle buses as crews performed emergency repair work.

Service was also disrupted on the C line.

MTA officials say they first learned about the problem when an A train lost power late Tuesday night.

"Vandals came in, I'm not sure how they accessed that actual area, but they were able to come in an cut that cable using tools, obviously, because it's very large diameter car and they were able to take approximately 500 feet," said MTA New York City Transit President Carmen Bianco.

The MTA is not reporting any problems in service on A or C trains.

Both lines carry nearly 800,000 customers a day, including a hundred thousand during the morning rush.
