The father of Etan Patz collected flowers and notes left by people at a memorial set up for his son in SoHo Monday.

The memorial was put together by jurors from the trial. It marked 36 years since Etan went missing on the way to his school bus stop on May 25th, 1979.

In an e-mail to NY1, Stan Patz says the set up was "an extraordinary show of sentiment by very concerned, but very frustrated people."

He shares the text of a letter left by "The Part 42 Jurors."

It reads in part: "Dear Sweet Etan, Although we did not know you personally, we have learned so much about you over the past 4 plus months. We are so sorry you never had a chance to live your life the way you deserved. From all that we have heard about you, we know it would have been a great one."

"We wish we could've done more to provide some sort of closure, but we will continue to support the fight for justice. Our thoughts and prayers are forever with you and your family."

The murder case against accused killer Pedro Hernandez ended in a mistrial earlier this month.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance says he plans to retry Hernandez.

An official announcement is expected next month.
