Another one of the eight victims of the deadly Amtrak derailment was laid to rest Friday.

Friends and family of Derrick Griffith came to say their final goodbyes at his funeral in the Bronx.

Griffith was a dean at Medgar Evers College. He had just earned his PhD in Urban Education and would have graduated at the end of the month.

His relatives are still having a hard time with their loss.

"I am so overwhelmed about the enormous support that I'm getting to help me to go through this moment," said Carlea Griffith, Derrick's mother.

"The candle is out much too early on a life that had so much more to give," said Jean Gumes, a faculty member at Medgar Evers College.

"His legacy is to live passionately towards justice, equity and compassion," said Gillian Byrne, a classmate of Derrick's.

Derrick Griffith was 43 years old.

Money is being raised to help the family pay for the funeral, and they say any additional funds will be used for scholarships in his memory.

A "Fund to Assist Loved Ones of Derrick Griffith" has been created at Indiegogo.com with a goal of raising $30,000. The special fund will help defray the family’s costs, and any additional money raised will be used for scholarships in Griffith's memory.
