Students from across the city are tackling social issues through art at the lunch table.

As part of the Learning through Expanded Arts Program, young artists decorated school lunch tables in collaboration with professional artists.

Bullying, gun violence, and homophobia are just some of the themes addressed in this year's work.

The tables will be displayed at two parks in every borough throughout the summer, where students and organizers hope they'll spark conversations.

"Kids are trying to express themselves, send messages, reflections, ideas around these issues, to hopefully make an impact in their community," said LeAp Public Art Program Director Alexandra Leff.

"We want to spread that it's not important our language, our color, our religion. Because we are family, and we are equal," said Mariangeles Contreras, an MS 332 student.

"They're gonna think about how discrimination is not good for our community," said Keven Valerio, an MS 332 student.
