The final numbers from the first round of admission show universal pre-k is in high demand.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's office says that almost 69,000 children registered during the first enrollment period for free, full day pre-k. That period, which ended at midnight Friday, saw at least 10,000 more sign ups than this year's total enrollment for the current school year. Between the five boroughs, Brooklyn saw the highest numbers, with over 21,000 applying for the program. The city says there will be a seat for every four-year-old who applies once school opens in September.
