Thousands made their way through Manhattan for the March of Dimes March for Babies Sunday.

The 3.5 mile walk is meant to raise money and awareness for pregnancy and baby health.

Organizers say hundreds of thousands of infants are born prematurely every year.

The associate director of the New York chapter says it has specific goals when it comes to the health of expecting mothers and their babies.

"It's to prevent poor birth defects and pre-term birth and infant mortality and we do that by doing researching and education and supporting families. So in the New York division primarily we work with community organizations to develop programs to look at pre-term birth. "

NY1 is an official sponsor of the March of Dimes March for Babies.
