Time is running out for parents who want their kids to go to universal pre-kindergarten in the fall.

Today is the deadline to enroll.

The city says it has already received more than 64,000 applications for the next school year.

That's 10,000 more than this year's total enrollment.

City officials say the large turnout speaks volumes about the need for the program.

"I think this tremendous response from the public really demonstrates how much this matters to families, how much this matters to parents and of course how much this matters to kids," said Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Inititiatives Richard Buery
