The city is reportedly expanding their efforts to crackdown on illegal cab drivers at local airports.

According to the New York Post, the city is starting a new enforcement squad at LaGuardia airport, to help not only unsuspecting tourists, but yellow cab drivers from illegal competitors.

JFK Airport has had a similar program in place since October 2013—where it has already generated over 8,000 summonses for illegal cabs and the seizure of at least 3,000 illicitly operated vehicles.

Investigators have begun to patrol LaGuardia, but only on the days they were moved from JFK. Those patrols have only resulted in a little over 3,000 summoners and nearly 200 cabs confiscated in 2014.

The new program is expected to cost tax payers $1.2 million for the first year and at least one million for each year after.

Those costs will cover the cost of the 20 inspectors and the devices they'll use to issue the summons.
