A heat and hot water complaint marked a major milestone for the city's 311 service.

The non-emergency complaint hotline took its 200 millionth call around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Quintin Rudd, the operator who took the call, said he's responded to about 100,000 calls since taking the job in 2007, but this one was particularly exciting.

"Well believe it or not, it was our 200 millionth caller that I took this morning at 7:24 a.m.," Rudd said.

"We think every day is special because we focus on customers every day, but today is a milestone day. Today, 311 has received its 200 millionth call since we launched in 2003," said 311 Executive Director Joe Morrisroe.

The center's director says 311 sees a spike in calls during the winter because of problems related to snow and heat.
