After the tough winter, New Yorkers might be happy to know that it's time to spring forward this weekend.

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, meaning clocks should be set ahead one hour.

The Fire Department says this is also a good time to replace the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

The department is handing out free batteries and fire safety information throughout the city.

Meanwhile, former city Traffic Commissioner Sam Schwartz is warning drivers to be careful on the roads.

He says about 900 people will die in traffic accidents across the country next week, with most crashes happening between Monday and Wednesday.

Schwartz says sleep deprivation and early morning drivers traveling in complete darkness, contribute to the crashes.
