The FDNY formally introduced its first female chaplain Tuesday.
The Reverend Ann Kansfield is from the Greenpoint Reformed Church in Brooklyn.
She is also the department's first openly gay chaplain.
Kansfield is one of eight chaplains who work part-time for the department.
Chaplain duties include opening and closing all FDNY ceremonies as well as assisting and arranging services for deceased members of the department.
