A Brooklyn man has been charged in the beating death of a transgender woman attacked in Harlem in 2013.

James Dixon, 24, pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and assault in court Tuesday.

Investigators say he attacked Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman, in August 2013.

Police say Nettles was walking on Eighth Avenue near 148th Street with three friends when they ran into a group of three men, including Dixon.

Officers say when Dixon found out Nettles was transgender, he punched her, knocking her to the ground, and continued to punch her in the face.

Nettles was declared brain dead three days later and was eventually taken off life support.

Another man was initially charged in connection with the case, but those charges were dropped in November of 2013.

Dixon is being held without bail.
