The NYPD is responding to a report from Capital New York that found that computers operating on the NYPD's network have been used to alter Wikipedia pages containing details of alleged police brutality.

Entries for Eric Garner, Sean Bell, and Amadou Diallo were among those edited.

In one entry according to Capital New York, “Garner raised both his arms in the air” was changed to “Garner flailed his arms about as he spoke” on the Garner Wikipedia page.

In another example cited by Capital New York, "use of the chokehold has been prohibited” was changed to “use of the chokehold is legal, but has been prohibited.”

The NYPD says they are conducting an internal investigation and that these incidents did not originate from computers located at Police Headquarters.
