A frozen sewage pipe at a Harlem school forced students to go outside to use the bathroom this week.

Sources tell NY1 two waste pipes froze at Frederick Douglass Academ and, as a result, portable restrooms were set up outside.

Sources say the bathrooms had heat and running water, and faculty members were stationed at the school doors to give students coats for the short walk.

However, students who spoke with NY1 say they had to wait outside in the cold.

"We stood by the stairwell and we had to wait in a long line. It was cold, because it's cold outside and we didn't have our coats," said one student.

The Department of Education says the indoor restrooms are working again.
