The city's Panel for Educational Policy officially signed off Wednesday night on a plan to lift the longtime ban on cell phones in public schools.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña originally announced last month that they were moving to lift the ban, which was put in place by former mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The ban is expected to end on Monday.
The new policy will allow principals, teachers and parents to set policies for individual schools.
