Loretta Lynch's nomination for Attorney General cleared a big hurdle Thursday.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted in favor of the nominee, and now the entire Senate will take a vote.

The Brooklyn federal prosecutor was hand picked for the job by President Barack Obama.

The 55-year-old currently serves as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

If confirmed, she will replace Eric Holder and become the first black woman to hold the nation's top law enforcement job.
