The cold weather has been tough on everyone, but especially those who work outside.

Con Edison crews have been out fixing power and gas lines every day despite the frigid temperatures.

They say their big concern is slipping and hurting themselves on the job because of the ice.

Workers also have to take extra breaks to keep warm.

"It's been a very brutal winter we've had this year, you know, but it's the same as if we work in the summer," said Michael Dunworth, an operating supervisor with Con Edison. "We work in the extreme heat, we work in the extreme cold. You have to dress for it."

ConEd has about 94,000 miles of underground electric cable to maintain in the city. That's long enough to wrap it around the Earth nearly four times.
