On the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X, his daughter spoke at Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network.

Sharpton praised Ilyasah Shabazz's efforts in keeping her father's legacy alive.

Shabazz says she's following in his footsteps by educating people about the importance of her father's civil rights work.

She encouraged everyone to help spead her father's message.

"I felt so compelled to try and do whatever it was that I could for my father, not because again he was my father but because of the work he did for all of us. So I don't think it's only my responsibility I think it's all of our responsibilities," she said.

Sharpton says he believes Malcom X would have been proud of the protesters who took to the streets in cities nationwide to bring attention to the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.
