As part of Black History Month, the City Council honored several people Friday for their contributions to society.

Among the four honorees was Regina Wilson, a firefighter who is the first female Vulcan Society president.

Also honored was Deputy Inspector Olufunmilola Obe, a Nigerian-born woman who worked her way up the NYPD ranks.

They received proclamations from the city and said they are honored to be recognized for their work.

"People of color have made significant investments as contributions to this great country to make it what it is today. And what we did today in the city council chambers was just a recognition of remembrance of all of that great work," said City Councilman Andy King.

"Our lives are very much different today. And this city and this world is a much better place because of some of the individuals who have crossed this earth," said City Councilwoman Rosie Mendez.

The night included performances, dancing and a Diana Ross impersonator.

The event was sponsored by the Council's Black, Latino and Asian caucus.
