The dispute over whether the Port Authority should pay to use the name "World Trade Center" has been settled.

It was announced Friday that the agency will no longer have to a pay a membership fee to the World Trade Centers Association, a non-profit that bought the rights to the name back in 1986.

An investigation by the state attorney general's office found that the Port Authority did not exercise due diligence when it transferred the rights for only "10 dollars and other consideration."

The WTCA collected around $184,000 from the Port Authority between 1991 and 2011 to use the name.

A new agreement says it now has to pay that amount back to New York State, as well as 33 percent of any revenue made from the name in New York State for the next 20 years.

The agreement recommends that the funds be given to the September 11th Memorial Foundation.
