A woman is dead after a fire tore through a Brooklyn home Sunday morning.

It happened at an apartment on East 89th Street in East Flatbush.

Fire officials say firefighters found a 49-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man inside the home.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Family members say the man and woman were siblings and the man ran back inside the burning building to try to save her.

"So he ran back inside to see if he could find his sister. But when he ran back—his sister's name was Maria Henry—when he went back to look for Maria, he apparently passed out inside and the fire department was able to get him out, but by the time they got to Maria, she was already gone."

The man was also taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
