New York Presbyterian Hospital is facing a $201,000 fine for exposing employees to the risk of infection from dirty laundry.

Federal inspectors say linen laundry bags were replaced with thin plastic ones about a year ago at the upper Manhattan location.

The bags broke and exposed workers to laundry contaminated with blood, bodily fluids and other infectious materials.

Hospital officials apparently knew about the broken bags but kept using them anyway, and never provided employees with protective gear.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also found the facility did not screen patients for an increased risk of tuberculosis.

New York Presbyterian says they disagree with the citations and are disputing them.
