Firefighters say electrical cords are to blame for a fire at an apartment building in Chelsea Thursday morning.

The fire broke out in a second-floor apartment just after 11 a.m.

It spread to the third floor before firefighters put it out.

Those inside the building were able to get out safely.

"There was a lot of renovations done in apartment, with numerous ceilings, so that caused a lot of time to be, in an effort to try to expose any hidden fire, it complicated our operation," said FDNY Deputy Chief John Bley.

The deputy chief also says some apartments have a lot of water damage.
