Two children and a firefighter are recovering from exposure after an ice rescue in the Bronx.

Firefighters say the children, between the ages and 10 and 12, were out on the ice in the Bronx River Thursday afternoon.

The FDNY says the girl fell in but made it to shore on her own.

When they arrived to the scene, they say they found her soaked, but they say the boy was still on the thin ice.

Firefighters say they tried to keep him calm during the rescue.

They tethered themselves to the shore and went out on the ice.

"Kevin waded out onto the ice. When the ice failed, he was then submerged to him neck. I waded out to my waist," said Chris Harkwish of the FDNY. "We were able to place a portable ladder out about 20 feet or so and rest it on the edge of the ice shelf. The child began to step forward when we told him to, 'Please, don't.' We were worried that if he moved at all, the ice was so thin, he'd be put under and sucked downriver."

The children and a firefighter who fell in the water were all taken to the hospital and are all expected to be OK.
