A group of musical actors are tracing the evolution of Doo Wop, and bringing it back to life. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed this report.

Five broadway veterans from Motown the Musical and Jersey Boys are blending their talents for a new show that breathes new life into Doo Wop.

The touring show is called "The Doo Wop Project. You may remember Charl Brown; he was nominated for a Tony for his spot on  portrayal of Smokey Robinson in "Motown: The Musical."

"There's so many groups that came out of the doo-wop era and it's actually back in the day when they used to write real music about love," Brown says.

The spirited show takes the audience on a nostalgic trip to yesteryear, back when guys blended their voices on a street corner and dreamed of fame.

Dominic Scaglione played Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He says the Doo Wop project gives him a chance to break out of his shell.

"It's been really amazing to sing with guys who you share the stage with and had to do eight shows a week, but now we can kinda mess around and do our own thing," Scaglione says.

"I want people to just reconnect with some of this really great music," says actor Dominic Nolfi.

This show is not only about the great sounds of Doo Wop; it also gives the great history of the music form from the 1950s.

"When we do our show definitely make the time to talk about the history of the music and how it's inspired all of us," says actor Dwayne Cooper.

Musical director Sonny Paladino says the show brings out the best in the vocalists.

"Just realize how beautifully simple the harmonies are," Paladino says.

"There's nothing like looking at an audience while your singing a song and people  are on their feet swaying," says actor John Michael Dias.

The Doo Wop Project is already booked in cities coast to coast. To learn more visit thedoowopproject.com.
