Governor Andrew Cuomo is giving state lawmakers until the end of the day to make a deal on the budget.

They were unable to reach an agreement Saturday during a rare weekend work day.

The budget was originally due at midnight Saturday morning

Both parties have been battling over affordable housing, education, and raising the age of criminal liability to 18.

New York is one of only two states that prosecutes 16 and 17-year-olds as adults.

Lawmakers we spoke with say they're close to compromising.

"We're moving in a good direction, we have the framework of an agreement but we have to re send it over to our conferences for approval, and we'll see later," said Assemblyman Joe Lentol.

"I think we're all on the same page. we want to see our young people have a bright future and not be part of the criminal justice system where they're incarcerated, instead of rehabilitated, and I think by working together, we're almost there," said Senator Jeff Klein.

If a budget is not agreed upon, Governor Cuomo says he will put forth emergency legislation to extend the current budget.
