This year’s state budget included a deal to push for more housing across New York, including developer incentives.

Last week, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that a state-owned site, as part of this deal, will be redeveloped.

It is just east of the city, in Suffolk County. The land is currently owned by the state transportation department as part of Republic Airport, but it has not been used since the 1990s.

Under Hochul’s new plan, the land would be transformed into a mixed-use hub.

This is the first of many state-owned sites that Hochul hopes to transform into more housing supply.

RuthAnne Visnauskas, the commissioner and CEO of New York State Homes and Community Renewal, which is the agency in charge of overseeing the governor’s housing plans, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to discuss more.
