NY1 Online: Hearing from the Senator
NY1 VIDEO: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand sat down with Bobby Cuza for a comprehensive interview.
Despite her opposition to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says she thinks he will be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
“Ultimately, yeah, I believe he will be,’’ Gillibrand said of Gorsuch’s nomination.
Speaking to NY1’s Bobby Cuza, Gillibrand said that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will succeed in pushing Gorsuch’s nomination through the Senate – even if he has to use the so-called “Nuclear Option” in which Senate rules are changed so that Gorsuch only needs a simple majority approval rather than the 60 votes that he currently needs.
Gillibrand also said that she has no interest in running for president in 2020, saying that she’s running for re-election to the Senate in 2018 -- and pledging to stay in office for a full six-year term should she win.
As for other New York Democrats, Gillibrand had kind words for Governor Cuomo when it comes to presidential politics.
“He’d be a great candidate,’’ she said of Cuomo, who’s also up for re-election next year.
