The Finger Lakes region is a place many people frequent for wine tastings. A relatively new winery is making the trip a little more convenient for those who live in the Syracuse area. Our Iris St. Meran takes a short drive to East Syracuse to Greenwood winery to all that they've Grown in New York to make the perfect glass of wine.

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- We all know good wine takes time. "The seeds were planted a little over 8 years ago," said Robyn Bombard, Greenwood Winery Sales Manager

This space now used as a vineyard for Greenwood Winery was once an empty field next to an East Syracuse business park. The owner Tom Greenwood decided to turn it into a winery.

"We always had a tremendous love of wine and planting and Tom said, 'Why don't we plant some grapes.' So, it took a while to come to fruition and to get the root stock to where it was able to produce enough fruit to make the wine. And it just grew from there,” said Bombard.

Greenwood offers everything you expect to see at a traditional winery but in a city setting. They do all the harvesting and production is done right here.

"We currently produce 22 different varieties of wine: reds, whites, Riesling which is very popular in this region of New York State. And we have a working farm down the road, a 65 acre farm where we grow additional grapes," said Bombard.

Good wine takes more than grapes. Contributors include the soil, weather, preparation and practice.

"A lot of trial and error to get that recipe, just exactly where you want it with the flavor, the taste the aroma and the fragrance all those important things in a good glass of wine. I think passion and hard work," said Bombard.

And that hard work has paid off. They can now enjoy the fruits of their labor which include running a bistro, wine tastings, parties and many other events.
